Artist Statement
My artworks largely deal with opposites: the beautiful and the broken, light and darkness, Heaven and Hell, trash and treasure, and life and death. I find inspiration through my faith, and the dramatic difference between Christ my Savior and myself and this sinful world. My work is often a struggle to understand how these opposites interact, and does so with gladness.
I work in a variety of mediums including found object, mixed media, ink, colored pencil, and collage. Naturally it is the inspiration of the art piece that dictates what media is used. While I enjoy working in a wide variety of mediums I hold art made of garbage near to my heart. I love the redemptive aspect of transforming garbage into something beautiful. While I believe that there is an aspect of worship in all of my art making, art made from garbage in particular serves as a powerful reminder of what God has done for me.
